Changes applied on the behavior of the PDF WebViewer after upgrade

Document open in View Mode

1. Left Panel

Starting with 29.4.0, the option is called Left Panel (instead of Panel before 29.4.0) and includes two sections:

  • Thumbnails
  • Outlines

Thumbnails enables the user to navigate across pages by one click on the page thumbnail. The feature to rotate clockwise each page individually or several pages selected in batch is no longer available in 29.4.0. User can still rotate pages in batch from View Controls menu.

Outlines is an extract of all the headings identified across the document enabling user to easily navigate to the section of their interest based on titles. Some extra-options are shown for each heading: Edit, Move up, Move down, Move Left, Move Right. However, as click on any of these options has no effect on the document itself, we can consider them obsolete.

View Controls

  1. Includes features enabling user to control page transition, page orientation, page layout or to enter/exit full screen mode.
  2. The only change applied with 29.4.0 is the removal of Compare pages item from Page Layout section.

Video Viewer Options (available only for video format documents)

The control which enables user to show/hide Frames below the video progress bar is no longer available. User can still navigate to a specific frame by clicking on the video progress bar.

Document in Review mode

When the document is open in Review mode the Annotations bar is displayed below the basic WebViewer controls.

1. Select tool

Starting with 29.4.0, the behavior of the 'Select' tool changes. By clicking on this icon, the user can select only annotations added on the document, not text or other content. This change was applied to prevent users from selecting and copying content from the document.

2. Text selection

Starting with 29.4.0, the user can no longer select text from a document in Review mode.

3. Default selected controls

With the upgrade, the default selected control is the first one under Annotate tab (Highlight). If the user selects a different control, the next time they will open a document in Review mode, their selection will be kept. In current production version (29.3.1), the selected control when entering in Review mode is Note/Comment, regardless of user’s previously selected controls.

4. New organization of the toolbars and new controls available

Starting with 29.4.0 version, the annotations tools are split in two categories corresponding to two tabs: Annotate and Shapes.

Annotate Tab

New tools available starting with 29.4.0:

  •  Insert Text () enables users to mark the placement of a text they suggest to add. The text suggested to be inserted can be specified as a Note/Comment.
  • Replace text (): enables users to strikethrough a segment of text and suggest a new replacement value as part of a note/comment
  • Callout (): enables users to insert a callout text anywhere inside the document. A note/comment is associated with the added callout.

Shapes tab

Starting with 29.4.0, the user has a larger range of Shape controls available besides Rectangle, which was the only one available until then.

The Presets toolbar available for changing the style of an annotation is replaced by  icon. Click on it opens a panel on the left where the user can select fill colors, stroke, opacity and other visual attributes.
